2D-Heterostructure Photonic Crystal Formation for On-Chip Polarization Division Multiplexing

Herein, we offer a numerical study on the devising of unique 2D-heterostructure photonic crystal (PC) that can split two orthogonally polarized light waves. The analysis is performed via two-dimensional finite element method (2D-FEM) by utilizing COMSOL Multiphysics software. device consists discrete designs PC formation. first formation optimized so it permits both TE- and TM-polarization to transmit through it. Whereas, second possesses bandgap (PBG) only for TE-polarized light. These formations are combined at an angle 45°, resulting in reflection self-collimated 90° owing PBG present While permitting TM-polarized wave travel uninterrupted. proposed has small footprint ~10.9 μm2 offering low transmission loss high polarization extinction ratio which makes ideal candidate be employed as on-chip division multiplexing system.
